visions

Within essence
there rests a chamber
given to each
for each
a divine gift
a secret
waiting four the moment
of  discovery.
Every cell is made to know it
our mind takes its time
to find it.

A chamber
resting deep and still
filled with glory
beauty
wonder
and awe.

The way to it
is without physical direction
found only in the world of feeling-
it is beyond the world
while resting within it.

The chamber is the essence of our own Tao
who we are in our higher form
and where we return
when we are each ready.

This is the chamber of union within
where all that was done
is undone
where all that was made
is unmade
where all that was not loved
is loved
into brilliance
and bliss.

He turns in this place
no other world concerns him
his journey here
lifetimes in making
yet no life has he lived
he is self-begotten
and knows himself through
his other forms
but is himself formless
plucked from essence
and resolving into imperishability.

Illusion is destroyed here
a sense that things are separate
as union begets union
deeper and deeper
a Yantra made up of his own being
a drop in the primordial ocean
ripples outward forever into phenomena
as his bliss is known as THE bliss
as the god in him knows the god in all
as what is smallest returns to the largest
as he makes certain circles
around that which is no longer separate
but it worshipped
and loved
moment by moment by moment
like suspended particles
frozen into time
but free from it all at once.
He has a love inside of him unlike any he has ever tasted
or known
and has born dissatisfaction
in all of his manifestations
until they each wake up to the deeper truth of it
and the love that abides
and rests
in the silence of this chamber
where bride and groom
are joined.

When we are one and become two
what will each of us do?
When we are two
we return into the one.
Turning this way
in sacred circles
eyes looking deep within Her
searchlights
for what the world can become.
When the two dissolve into one
and pull and push apart
so to merge again and again
each time new realizations
born in this movement
worlds forming
of their own accord
the essence of the creative
manifesting
turning
returning
healing
churning
moving
illuminating.

Just as the God He exists
Self manifest,
She too is born
and lives
in this breathing world
and all others
for She
the Goddess
animates
fulfills
His dreaming
and creation.

Just as He is a search light
She is the All that is lit
the embrace that yokes passion
the womb that births miracles.

These two turn ’round about
each other
giving us the foundation of being.

There is nothing that does more
to crack open the dark places
than this.
Turning and churning in this capsule
beyond all time,
brilliant depths moved
far beyond any physical frame
yet touching upon them all
and seeding them silently
potently
certainly
waiting until waiting is filled
and the world of it
bursts open
new and old
and all places in-between
-a totality-
swept up within it
and transmitted through all time
and all places.
Like footprints in the sand…
Creation is realized anew in each moment
in each new thing
a microcosm
within the infinite.
The mystery
here
is made manifest
when each heart opens
to remembering it.

The essence of this feeling
which leads you there
finds you there
a place without a journey
a world within all form
awaits the union of each of ourselves
as we are brought to the All
into that which we are
each complete
but incomplete
pushing and pulling against the
opposites of our natures
and teasing out the creations
that reveal what it is in each moment.
In each moment the mantra is
love
love
love
love.

The signal comes through
enters this world
like some distant broadcast
its story changes the moment
as possibilities multiply
and creation grows fertile
with its promise
that we are it and it is us
and we meet in the chamber
and realize it is living out
its existence in our lives
in the gentle caress of the sky
the wonder of water
the warmth of fire
and the turn of days.
It is implicit in all that we see
but look for it
or dive for it
it does not matter;
it resides in the grass
it is within you
it is in all things
it simply is.
Tao-like
turning
blue and gold
cool and warm
all opposites are merged
in this place
this world
that is our own.

Touch it and touch all times
know all worlds that will be or were known
the moment freezes
becomes all moments
as a window opens
and allows you through to all times
and places
not for knowing
but for pure awe and wonder.
It exists in this moment
and all other moments
yet no eye can see
but all hearts can feel.

All of the moments of magic in my life
has been bounded by this
gathered by it
made true by it
and moved me forward
magnetic and certain
even as other scoffed
and derided
I knew the truth of it
for it was the greatest truth of all
if was my own
as I seek it fervently
hungrily
for the healing it affords
the freedom it bestows
the wonder it instills
and the fire that it ignites.

It has been my feeling that when you can learn to use your inner senses that it helps to reveal to you an aspect of the world and of yourself that helps brings wonder and understanding to you.  Not long ago I was talking with my daughter, who for years had been told by her mother that her Dad was off his rocker when it came to my experiences in my inner life.  So I said to her that I could show her how to read auras.  I’d give her the master class over the summer so she could judge on her own just whose rocker belonged to who.  Its okay to be a skeptic.  In fact, its really important that you question the world around you, including claims about psi ability.  However, when you are faced with an ability like reading the aura, a whole new wrinkle in how you may have thought the world works opens up. And it is in this new view into the world that its important to test your abilities to make sure that YOU are comfortable with what it is that you think you are seeing or picking up on.

Let me explain what I mean.  When I first began seeing auras, I was lucky that I had a few friends who also were able to see them.  I utilized one friend’s ability as a type of “control” over about a year period as I tested what it was that I was seeing with my “new vision.”  We developed a kind of code that we used whenever we were out and about and I wanted to test what it was that I was seeing in the moment.  The code would be “What about that guy [pointing] up ahead in the fedora hat?”  for example.  She would then tune in and tell me what she saw.  The method was that I never revealed to her what it was I was seeing, I just wanted her to tune into a given person to test what it was I was seeing.  This was how I conducted a lot of my tests.  However, I also did other types of tests, too.

On the first day that I began to see auras, I was in a college classroom.  I had read about auras and had even known someone the previous summer who could see them, and I was fascinated with the idea that people could do this, so I learned a few things about it before I had begun to see them.  When I realized I was likely seeing them, I noticed some things right away that I remembered from my reading in a book about them.  While I was seeing this guy’s aura in class I noticed that he had these orange-yellow spires coming off his shoulders.  Everyone else’s aura was uniform around their bodies.  I surmized that this may have been the presence of pain in his physical body for some reason.  My classmate did not show outward signs of this pain, he just sat there in class like the rest of us.  Because he was someone from my dorm who lived on my floor, I walked up to him after class was through and said hello and clasped his shoulder gently in my welcome.  He winced and I pulled back asking if he was alright.  He explained that he had been lifting weights the previous evening with friends at the gym and had overdone it. His shoulders hurt!  “Huh” I thought.  I filed this bit of information away for later.

Over the following year I did countless “tests” like these, asking friends about what it was that I say in their energy field after I had seen evidence of something there previously.  I was able to build a rather large bank of information about the nature of the human energy field as a result of this that helped me to understand what I was seeing and also, perhaps more importantly, to show to myself and anyone else, that what I was seeing was beyond ordinary physical perception.

I will tell you that one of the last times that I actively read an aura was when I had the occasion to see Jane Goodall speak at a local school a few years ago.  We were in fairly close quarters in a small auditorium and found that I was seeing her energy.  For years I have not actively tuned in to energy in this way, but when I began seeing the flashes, I thought what the heck….and as I did, I was able to see something that I had seen on a few occasions, which was that I could detect the thought forms occurring in her mind moments before she would talk about them.  This was the interesting part because I was able to anticipate something she was going to say before she said it.  Thought forms are created in the mind as the mind is thinking about a memory or is somehow creating an image in their minds and this can sometimes be detected in the aura.  For years I had never seen such a thing, even though I had read about this in the book Hands of Light by Barbara Brennan.  So As I looked at her, I noticed that I was seeing a hunched form that had a distinctive loping kind of gate, and at the time Goodall was talking about a chimp that was hooting because she knew that another chimp was on its way.  She described the way that I saw the form seconds before she mentioned it as it moved just as she described.  These appeared not as solid objects, but were more like vapor-like forms, like a smudge on a window….ghostly in a way, but clearly present in yet another.

The aura or halo has been depicted throughout the East and West. Below, a Buddha sits with a head and body halo.

So having said this, I encourage you to test what it is you see.  I also encourage you to learn how to relate, just as I did, to the colors and what they mean.  There are lots of simple and straight-forward charts on the colors and their meanings.  I have noted that in my experience that most of them are accurate for the most part.  However, I have noticed that some colors are different for me than they are in the charts.  And why? The reason is, I observe, as a result of my own feelings about these colors.  In my last installment in this two-part series I explained that auras really can’t be detected by the physical eye, but that, rather, they are the result of a rather miraculous facility the brain has, apparently, for being able to take nonphysical sensory data (psi data) and translate it into usable “physical sensory” information.  This is the root of what happens with all psi abilities I have noticed. Years ago I once interviewed a physiological psychologist who teaches and does research in this area and I asked him if the brain received signals that do not come from the physical senses, will it ever put that data into a sensory slot to make it seem as though it is coming from one of the senses?  “Oh yes, most certainly!” was his reply.  However, even though this all sounds like one big trick of the brain, it is based in real phenomenon that is being picked up on.  Sadly, it is not something that scientists have troubled themselves with looking into all that much. It has been considered a fringe subject, and no one wants that label, apparently.

The Last Supper

Red is most often equated with passion, love, and anger.  In my experience I hardly ever see red in people because I have a problem believing that anger and love can be described by the same color.  Instead, love often comes through as an intensity of a lighter more spiritual color (for me).

Orange- has always been related to anguish and sadness, as well as subsumed anger.  I have only seen orange on two occasions.  One person had been in a bad fight with his son an hour before and the other person was recounting their experience in a Nazi death camp.  I have seen orange as physical pain, but most often it is only a tinge of it.  Your results may vary.

Yellow – this color has always represented what I call the middle of the road type of energy.  It is often detected in auras as a very common color for many people.  it has a relationship to mental energy and being in the head. This tends toward positive energy and is a vibrant color that can be deep or light depending on the concentration and focus within that range.

Green – this has always had a double meaning and is at once spiritual and rooted in the here and now, for the most part, which also makes it a healing energy.

Blue – a spiritual color. This often relates to a strong commitment to what you are doing, that you feel your work or your state of being is tied directly into a purpose.

Violet – this color is likewise spiritual, but with a strong influence of the intuitive.  Often people with this color will exhibit strong psychic abilities.

With the colors in hand, there are a number of different wrinkles that add an incredible amount of variation into the mix.  First, there is the intensity of the color, which I would call brightness.  This is how powerfully focused a person is.  Sometimes a strong color will mean a person is really focused in what the color means, but this can also mean that the person’s energy is simply very strong.  You can detect which is which by observing the person and how they speak to determine which this likely is. I have seen some people whose colors are amazingly light….like a very very faint ice-blue, for example, without a lot of saturation (concentration of color).  Often, this can reveal that the thoughts and feelings are not well focused.  In some cases, it can reveal an other-worldy kind of focus.  How the person is expressing themselves verbally will most often tell the tale if you listen long enough.

wp-1466044706458.jpeg

Another wrinkle is the size of the aura. For some people, the inner aura can be very compact and located close to the body.  This often is a strong local focus in the self and the body.  In some cases, the aura can be very large, in which case the person has not only a lot of energy, but a strong sense of presence.  This type of person is NOT a wallflower (usually).  Now having said that, you can get someone with a very strong aura like this who is very quiet.  Now what do you think that means

The other wrinkle is how the aura will shift and change from moment to moment. Does a person’s color change on a dime, or does it stay constant?  This says a lot about a person.
Some are like rocks while some are like kaleidoscopes.

In the image below, Ganesh is shown with the nimbus or aura around his head. This image comes very close to how the part of the aura appears that is closest to the body. There is normally lighter misty color that then surrounds the body, extending outward to about three to four feet.

The other wrinkle are what I call localized effects that can be striations in the aura such as intense beams of light in certain parts of the aura as well as little bursts of light that look almost like stars.  These bursts behave a lot like little crystalized nodules of light that fly off from the aura or float for a few brief seconds before dissipating.  These are, I observe, the result of intense thought and feeling, and can be determined which they are based on the colors they are associated with and what parts of the body they are coming from (feeling may be more in the body while thinking may be nearer to the head for example).

wp-1466046882631.gif

The aura, contrary to the chart above, is not seen as a rainbow. The “rainbow body” is usually only detected in people who have released a lot of suppressed emotional energy. The aura is lighter than depicted above. If I saw an aura as depicted in the image to the right, I would expect mental illness or physical illness.

Yet ANOTHER wrinkle are auras that are divided into multiple color zones.  One side of the body can have one color while the other side has yet another.  Not always, but often I have noted that when this happens, the person is feeling out of balance somehow.  this shows up as one side being one color and the other being another color. In other cases I have seen much more localized areas that go from one color to another.  In this case, thought and emotional energy, as well as physical energy is swirling and changing.

Taking all of this in as a whole while looking at the aura will provide you with a pretty broad world of possibility in what an aura can communicate.  Auras are highly personal in how they are from person to person, and this is important to note as you look at people.  I knew one person who never deviated from the base-line color that he had around his body the whole time I knew him except for one instance. And having said this, I have seen people whose “baseline” is to be a world of swirling changing energy.

I once had a teacher whose aura would do this really wild thing, which was so very much about who he was.  I never saw it in quite the same way with anyone else.  His aura was like a capacitor. Do you know what a capacitor is in electronics?  Well, if you don’t, a capacitor will draw energy, store it, and then release it suddenly after a given amount of time.  My teacher would have this aura that would grow in size in a sphere shape and then it would build in brilliance for a few seconds and then as he would say something, a thought in his head seconds before, his aura would flash brightly, after which it would then dim down until he got to his next idea.  What he was doing, I realized, was the WAY that he experienced his thoughts, which was like a flash of realization….moment to moment, though.  He was the kind of person who didn’t always know what he was going to say next, and was always in that moment of working it through mentally, and the moment that he realized HOW he was going to say what he was going to say, there would come this flash! It was at first disconcerting to see, but I came to realize that this was a peculiarity with how his own thinking went.

Now I have also seen similar flashes, many actually, in the aura, and they are often associated with a person thinking and then figuring out what they are about to say next, so this type of flashing can, in my own experience, be tied to seeing a person’s thought process unfold before me.  In fact, it is phenomenon like this that has helped me to understand how some people think and how they link language with the thoughts that they are thinking.  People who are very visual will often wind up with images passing through the aura almost like a kind of etheric television displaying their thoughts in a ghost-like form.  If you watch, you will often see that the flash comes just before the words come out.  In this way you can see how the aura will show you how the person is handling their thoughts, the character of how they think or process information.

Now occasionally, and only on a few cases have I seen dark colored auras.  This has been very rare. However, in one case, I saw a man who had a dark aura with very strange color patterns in it.  Instead of the colors being bright and light, they were…metallic in character.  I learned later that this person was on anti-psychotic medication for some issues he had with mental illness.  I was lucky in this case because I knew to steer clear of him based on what I had seen.

The aura can change throughout the body, from head to toe.  When this happens, you have to be able to intuit what the reasoning is for this.  Is it because of a weakness in one part of the physical body?  Subsumed emotion?  Perhaps blocked prana flow?  Any of these and more might be the culprit, so it is important to continue to view in order to tease out the reason behind what it is that you are seeing.  Being able to determine what “body” the energy is from is a studied ability.  This is not always easy to do, and it is best that you allow your own intuition and experience rule the day.

There are about five different bodies that are expressed in the aura. This is interesting because the Hindu describe five “koshas” a term that means sheath or layer, which means that they conceptualize all of our different aspects as layers or dimensional aspects in the energy body and consciousness and it shows up as these five layers.  In fact each chakra has five dimensional aspects that correspond to each of them. Okay, so the layers and what they are….

These five layers are the (1) emotional body, the (2) mental body, the (3) physical body, the (4) astral/soul body, and the (5) pranic or energy body itself.  All these energies go to form a matrix that make up who you are at any given moment.  Most often I have found that the energy that is tightly focused to the body IS connected to the physical body.  Again, you have to watch and observe, because sometimes this is not always the case! Sometimes when ideas or feeling are very pressing in the moment, I have seen this energy come to the fore and express itself close to the body when it most often plays through the aura more from a distance from the physical body itself.  I know that this all may sound dizzyingly complex, but in time you WILL be able to intuitively tease out which is which.  Experience will also be your guide in the same way that it was for me, but its good to take mental notes and then to also ask questions of your subject.  I recommend having numerous people who would like their aura to be read by you in exchange for communicating to you what it is that they are feeling so that you can learn to calibrate what it is you are seeing with what the person is revealing.  Remember; you are actually feeling all of this deeper down, so if you can learn to forge a good relationship with the part of you that feels (this is not to be confused with emotion….this is your inner sensitivity, which is a different thing).

Still yet another wrinkle in this is how far out you can detect the aura.  How far can you see outward from the aura?  In the beginning you might only see energy close to the body.  In time, though, you may learn to see further and further away from the body.  This tends to get into the subtle or astral body and leads into issues connected to the soul.  The more accute your sensing becomes, the further outward you will most often be able to see.  Also, there are some people whose energy goes beyond ones ability to even see.  Many years ago, about the first year I was seeing auras, I had the opportunity to see a native American healer speak at a nearby college. My friend and I went to see him and we both “tuned in” to see what his energy looked like.  And we both saw the strangest thing; he had no color at all!  In fact, his energy was more like non-colored lines of force that I had seen in natural objects, but not in people.  Not only this, but his energy would build and then it would drop back….it was doing this pulsing thing the whole time he was speaking.  It was as though he was a channel for some energy that was itself on the very edge of our ability to detect.  This man had been involved in some important healing work and was able to draw physical sickness out of a person in a way that appeared rather miraculous to us at the time.

It is possible that when you first start seeing the aura that you do not detect color.  This sometimes is the case for some people.  In this case, I think it is instructive to allow yourself to open up more to let the color in.  I know how this sounds, but you are not dealing with something thought-based but something that is all about feeling….and you most certainly can and do feel auras first and foremost.  As you look at the aura ask yourself where is the color?  Ask yourself to show the color and then wait.  Keep looking, keep observing, and be patient.  The matter is one of tuning in.

If you are unable to see the aura well using the methods I showed you in the first installment, I will tell you about how I first began to see auras, because I think it is helpful in understanding just how much this does not have to do with what you think or anything in your head.

I was late for class.  I had been working in my room and I had to sprint clear across campus to get to class before the bell tolled and I was late.  My teacher had always said that if you are late, don’t bother coming.  He often dismissed students who came in only a minute late to class.  So I was chugging away and running as fast as I could. I sped past the dorms and then the library and then the chapel. I was about ready to feel like I was going to faint when I rounded the steps up to the Art building.  I felt like I was being deprived of oxygen.  Everything I was doing was focused on getting enough oxygen back into my body so I could walk into the classroom. I made it to class on time and as I walked up the steps, I breathed very deeply so I would not be huffing and puffing in class.  What happened during this experience was I was suddenly focused in my body, not in my head.  A shift had happened. It was just enough to bring energy into focus for the first time.  And that was it: I was using my body, not my mind, to FEEL this energy.  And what I know is that when I tune into auras, I feel as though my whole body, my own energy body, is actually the thing that is picking this all up.  I have often felt as though I had this satellite dish in my solar plexus that picks all of this up.  “What does your gut say?” is an apt term to use here.  The idea is that we do not use our minds, we are using the whole of our own energy field to detect other fields like our own around us.

Now I tell you this story partly because it could help you in developing another way to see auras that is based in the mechanics of seeing.  Maybe you might want to work out with some heavy cardio and then see what you see.  Get out of your head and  get into your body.  FEEL.  The other reason I am telling you this is because I told a friend of mine about my aura experience and about a year later he told me the story of a friend of his who also started to see auras and she had told him that she had been running across campus, too.  However, my friend was at a school in Virginia while I was at a school in another state.  There was NO WAY for the woman who started seeing them to have known about my story at all.  I think we both hit upon the same trigger, which is strong exercise to root you in the awareness of the body.  The level of exertion I had was such that I was breathing heavily and I felt as though my heart beat was pounding in my chest, the whole of my body, and also my eyes.  I was completely focused in my body.  So there is that important bit of information for you!

Walter Kilner wrote a book entitled The Human Aura.  It is available from Amazon and while it is not a psychic review of the aura, but rather one that involved the use of sensitizing screens made up of cyanin for seeing the aura, a lot of the shapes and issues he saw while doing his work as a doctor is accurate for anyone who wants more insight. he method that Kilner used was to, perhaps, extend his visual acuity into the range where auras begin to be seen through a sensitizing process.  I suspect that some of Kilner’s observations may have also been of a psi nature mixed with his screen method.  Its an older book, perhaps from the 40’s or so, but is relevant for anyone who wants to know more. There is not a huge amount of information out there on this aside from the now-popular aura photography (which I can’t speak to since I am not familiar enough with it—it may be accurate but it appears to use a different method with different results that are at variance with the color schemes I see naturally).

Djwal Kuhl, who, as I recall, was the name of an ascended master who channeled the book some years ago has a book about the aura also.  My memory is that it is less about mechanics and more about issues related to clearing ones own aura and doing spiritual work (which may in fact be helpful).

The benefit of using your inner sensing to see auras is that in healing work you can keep some energies from becoming entangled in your own.  However, when doing healing work, it is important to realize that the healer should themselves be healed before embarking on healing work or else the imprint of healer or patient can be made.  This is where the healer must work carefully and consciously. if you have an issue that you have not healed, you will often find that you have patients who come to you with the same issue or a related issue. These will also change as you do healing work.  This is based on discussions I have had with other healers.  The law of attraction at work.  So it is helpful to get as clear as you can to be as helpful wen working with energy healing.  The more healed you are, the more neutral you will be and the more effective you will be.

One thing that is possible is that you can detect illness before it manifests in the body.  You can see conditioned that involved blocked energy that if you do healing work, you can more directly address quickly by looking at the aura.  I once knew a doctor who used his ability to see the aura as a prelude to his own exam of his patients.  He never let them know that he saw the aura, but it helped him to more clearly understand the root of the problem.  Unfortunately, in our present day, we think that the answer often lies in popping a pill.  The benefit for seeing energy is that sometimes when it comes to physical problems you can often detect that the problem where the person is identifying as the point of trouble or pain is actually located in another part of the body and that this is creating a “cascade” of other symptoms.  This can often happen with the spine and legs.  Pain in the lower back can sometimes show up in the knees or feet, or even in the shoulders depending on the type of imbalance.  Knowing this can clue you in much more quickly than a “hunt and peck” method.

As I sit here, I am laying back and looking at the energy in my hands and I realize that my own aura has changed over time.  I see now how there is a rainbow of colors that come out of my fingertips and that this relates to something having to do with the flow of prana in my body. I see how two of my fingers are more strongly charged with energy and that these fingers also correspond, interestingly, with the active fingers with meridian lines as described in Chinese medicine, for example. I also see how an emotional issue has effected one side of my body today and it has not yet cleared up in my right hand.  As a result, I focus energy into that part of my body in order to clear up the blocked energy which is just my holding back some emotion.  As I do a simple breathing exercise I can see how the energy comes back into my body since breathing always helps me to ground myself in the body as well as relax me. As I do this, I see how on one side of the opposite hand, there is a strong glow of violet color, which shows that I am tapping into my own intuitive power and my inner senses.  My physical health is excellent as the brilliance of my energy shows.  My color is a changing force-field that adapts to the needs of the moment.  Perfect.

The aura is often described as electromagnetic in nature.  I think that it is certainly this as we have a low level of electricity flowing through us all the time. But prana is a still-finer energy vibration that electricity, and it is this finer energy that shows up along with the field of physical energy.  Prana is itself the energy that records and shows all other energies.  I say this because I observe that it is through prana that all other energies get recorded into the vast field of energy that exists all around us and the planet at any given time.

Beyond this is also energies in nature, in plants and animals and in objects.  Sometimes we leave some of our energy behind us in things.  Some years ago I saw the most amazing thing happening with a tree in my yard.  This took place at night and I had never seen anything like this before, which was that I saw thousands of very fine points of light that were flowing out of the tree and into the night air.  As I watched this I asked myself what on earth this was.  The simple answer was that the tree was “breathing” out energy that it built up during the day and needed to release at night.  I had simply never been able to detect this type of energy before.  I had seen fields around trees and animals, but nothing like this before. The whole earth itself is a living biosphere full of all kinds of energy.  We all exist like fish exist in a sea.  We share it together.  We feel it all together, even when we are unaware or focused in other directions.  Sometimes, when you become adept at picking up on energy in this way, open your mind to the world mind, to the body of the world and feel into that rich sphere of awareness and see what there is for you to see and know.  This is YOUR Gaia.  This is your cradle of life.  What does it mean for you?  What does its energy tell you beyond the mirror of your own thoughts?

Seeing the aura can provide you with a wealth of information that can help you a lot in your life.  You can detect emotional and mental issues pretty quickly in the aura.  It can give you perspective and it can help you a lot in your own inner work by showing you that yes, we are multidimensional beings and yes, energy is a real thing.  It can bring new perspective and it can inoculate you against the ignorance of a strict physicaly-oriented view of the world.

Note: the image above originally only had the halo or nimbus around Shiva’s head. When I saw this, I went into the image using Photoshop to give Parvati, who is Shakti, her own halo also. -P.
Learning to read the aura is not hard to do when you know a few very basic techniques and things to look for in order to begin to tune in the energy field that is called the aura. This is the first installment of a two-part series that will delve into the subject based on my 30 years+ of experience and others who I have known over the years who have the same ability.

You will want to experiment on yourself first by sitting in a room that has diffuse lighting and a wall with a light, neutral, background. What you are looking for are few objects in the background that will disturb your view of your hands which will be what I will have you look at first. Once you have situated yourself in a room with a light wall in a room with diffuse light, I want you to raise your hands up in front of you so that they are resting comfortably and bring your hands together fingertip-to-fingertip and begin to look at them. This is not a usual kind of look, though.

The type of gaze that you want to cultivate for reading the aura is more like looking beyond the object. Your focus will need to be slightly beyond your hands even though you may be looking almost directly at them. You might say, “Huh?” Try it…and you might know what I mean.

There is a lot to be said for using peripheral vision and not the center focus of your vision for detecting the aura. In truth, the center of our eye focus tends to be fairly narrow once you start observing how you actually see. Doing this may not be natural to you at first, but it is a critical component in seeing energy fields. It is critical, I observe, because the part of your perception that is engaged in “scanning” is the part of your brain that will be most closely tied to translating the energy into a form that your awareness can work with and understand. This observation has come from over 30 years of reading energy and examining within myself the mechanisms that are at work.

This gaze that looks “past” the person is a gaze that has been used by people from many different walks and traditions. Shaman in healing rites can be observed using this same method when seeing into spirit as they look at the person being healed. Saints, prophets, and yogis, all have been known to exhibit this type of focus. It is not hard to do- a subtle defocusing is all that is required.

Scanning in this way is important, and you may need to practice it for a while to become comfortable with it. What can be helpful is to pick a spot on the far wall and hold your focus on that one spot while you gaze. The type of gaze will be one in which you will be looking at your hands but beyond your hands so that you are detecting your hands in your vision but not focusing on them directly. Then as you do this, place the tips of your fingers close together with the fingers on each hand slightly apart so that each finger on each hand will line up with the fingers of the other hand.

Now, slowly bring the hands in together until they are touching and then slowly draw the hands apart while you gaze in the way that I have just described to you. You will be looking for something that is extending beyond your hands and fingers as you draw them apart.

You will want to practice this a number of times because you will want to try different kinds of lighting conditions that will work best for you. This can also give you the opportunity to try this exercise while in different states of mind, too, to see which works best.
In my next installment, I will go into why your state of mind is important.

There is something to the fact that you should not be trying too hard to accomplish this seeing. It is better to have a calm and empty mind, relaxed, but not trying too hard as you do the gazing. If you try too hard, you will most likely wind up blocking your perception. Don’t try with your mind. Try only with the eyes and body awareness. I will go into body awareness more deeply in my next post.

Most often what people will see as they do this exercise is that they will begin to see slightly darker and lighter lines of force that run between the fingers from one hand to the other. The effect or the appearance of these lines will be extremely subtle and will almost seem as something similar to heat distortions that occur in the air as it rises off of the ground in the summer. This isn’t the only phenomenon you might see in the beginning.

Sometimes the effect of having looked at a brightly colored object and then looking away and having an after image burned onto your retina for several seconds can approximate some of the way an aura can appear to you. The trick here is in being able to differentiate between this “burning in” effect and actually seeing the aura. I say this because when you gaze in the way I have described, it is very easy to get a lot of instances of “burning in.”

The color or the energy will be very light and very subtle in the beginning (most likely). As you practice this and begin to see these very very subtle effects, it is possible that you might think that you are imagining it. Don’t let this throw you in any way because the truth is, your eyes do not have the ability to see such a fine form of energy as the aura! Even though it appears as though you are beginning to see them with your eyes, in all truth what is happening is that they appear to be seen. But the brain, which is now trained on the topic of energy, is put to the task of translating the energy that is coming in through your body (and energy field) and is active in creating an image that is consistent and that will make sense to you. This actually is the truly amazing part, which is that all psychic ability is the brain’s ability to translate energetic phenomenon into a sensory field of experience so that it makes sense to you physically. I will get more into this in my next installment to explain how this is so, so make sure you read the second installment.

As you practice in this way, you may also simply hold your hand up in front of you and gaze at it, slowly moving it in order to see if you can detect the aura around your hand. Holding the hand beginning at about arms length is a good distance to start with. In most cases, people will see no color but the appearance of some kind of small disturbance around the hand (in the beginning) which, again, will seem as though it’s a trick of the eyes, or maybe they’re imagining it. But when you see this effect, you want to pay attention to it, and observe it long enough to determine whether or not it is an afterimage (which is very possible because by gazing in the way that I have described to you, you may in fact get after images burned on your retina that will last for a time) or not. However, once you have begun to pick up the energetic phenomenon in the way that I just described to you, you can then move on to looking at different parts of your body and also looking at the energy around other people’s body.

It may be possible that after trying to see the aura in the way I have described, that you have no luck at it. In this case, it may be helpful to find a willing participant who will sit and let you practice this as you chat.

The best arrangement that I have found is that there should be at least four feet between the subject and a neutral back wall and 10-12 feet minimum between you and the subject. The best type of lighting is well-diffused. One of the best ways to get diffused light is either a room with many windows that scatters the light during the day so that the windows are not facing the Southern Exposure or you have a lamp that shoots the light on the ceiling that is far enough away from the subject that you do not create any hot spots in your vision.

I have found, as a result, that for as much as I dislike fluorescent lighting, I can see auras in this type of light rather easily. What I observe is that the nature of fluorescent lighting is that it is much more diffuse. There also appears to be some kind of effect on me the viewer when I am in fluorescent light and my ability to see auras. I noticed this early on several decades ago when I first began to see the human aura. I noticed that when I was in a classroom with a teacher at the front of the room, that the fluorescent lighting created a sense of non-local light. That is, that the light was coming from “everywhere” because of the nature of how fluorescent tubes work. However having said this, I have also been able to read people who were on stages giving talks and performing who were under very intense light such as spotlights and I have had no problem.

Experience is going to tell you what particular lighting environments work the best for you. I have always found that having some degree of distance between me and the subject is of great benefit. Sometimes sitting across the table from the person I am reading works as well as far away. It often depends on a host of factors including lighting, neutral backgrounds, and distance. Sometimes when one of these factors is optimal, one or more of the others may be less important.

What I suggest that you do is you simply try this same method, whatever you are using it on, your hands or whether you are watching or trying to read a person from a larger distance, the gaze is the same. When it comes to someone who is, say, 15 to 20 feet away, I will tend to look around their head or near their body but in fact what I’m doing is I’m picking a spot that isn’t at the center of their body but is actually a few inches away from the surface of their body. So, for example when I am reading the aura of someone, I will begin to gaze and look at their head, say. I will not be looking them in the eye, but will be gazing over their whole body. I will be using my peripheral vision in a much more localized way that is just beyond the center focus of my eyes, and I will pick a spot just to the right or to the left of their body. While my center focus is perhaps on a wall that is beyond their body, I will in fact be concentrating my awareness on the area around their body all at once. This is not always as easy as it sounds because it is the not the most natural way for us to look but it’s, again, very important that you create this defocused effect in your vision, and it may take some practice to cultivate it.

If you wear glasses, I would ask that you take them off prior to viewing the aura. Now I know that you might have very bad vision, and I am saying this because nearly every person that I have ever known who sees the aura has always had to take their glasses off in order to see them better. To explain why this is important, a quick story…

When I was in college I had a roommate who had extremely poor eyesight – you know those glasses that look like coke bottle glasses? Those were the type of glasses that my roommate John wore.  One day we were in our room and we were having a conversation, and I noticed that I was feeling this movement of my energy that I have always associated with healing energy. It suggested to me something was up. I could feel that John was tuning into my energy. My “aware” energy was really moving, a state that I have felt every time I have passed on my gift, directly, to another person (yes, you can do this). As we were talking John began to look away from me, as if he was looking at my hair or something. It was as though he was distracted. After several minutes of this, I stopped talking and asked him what was going on. He then said that he thought he was seeing something around my body which was like a light or a colored light. In that moment I put one and one together, and very quietly without much fuss, I tested my theory about glasses (for the first time) and I said, “John could you take your glasses off just for a minute?” When he did so, he registered a great deal of surprise. He exclaimed, “It’s bright! it’s a light!” I then asked him what it was that he was seeing, and he explained and described to me what he had been seen and that when he took his glasses off he was actually able to see the energy much more clearer and more brightly than he had before. Bear in mind, John knew nothing about auras, let alone what the effect would be to take them off. But from that day forward, John had entered the world of conscious energy awareness and observation.

Since I have never worn glasses in my life, except until the last few years for some reading, I have never had to take off my glasses. I have never run into this issue, so I can’t really speak to it very well, except that I do know that everyone that I know has been able to see auras better without their glasses on. I would urge you to do the same. I know that for some of you your eyesight may be poor but I want you to try it anyway. I want you to try it anyway because I suspect that you will find that even though while your vision may be poor, your ability to see the aura will be enhanced by using this method.

In my next installment, I will be going over issues related to color and how to begin to tune in color, which often is the next step for a lot of people who are just beginning to see the aura. I am also going to be covering some things that you may want to bear in mind when first seeing the aura, which fall into the category of certain mechanisms that may very well assist you in creating the bridge between your own energy field and your brain’s ability to translate that information. I will discuss the five “bodies” of energy that make up the aura, the colors, as well as the numerous energy effects that often show up in the field and what they mean. I will include work on body awareness and how we all feel energy and how we can utilize this for healing, greater awareness, as well as spiritual growth.

So for now, practice! If you have questions, feel free to ask. I will be happy to answer any question or to clarify anything I have said in this post. Until then!

Join me Sunday at 3:00 E.S.T. for information on how to sense energy fields.

Soulfully Yours,

In recent studies, some very interesting discoveries are being made about the consciousness of invertebrates (like bees).  This article helps to flesh out the details:

The Consciousness Of Bees

Have a great weekend!

Healing work can only come through a brutal self honesty….also referred to as “radical self honesty.”  This is because of how  adept we are at ducking responsibility for how we react and respond to others around us.  Until you are able to get to this deep level of honesty about what is happening, you will be unable to heal. It seems that only this kind of self examination is the prerequisite to true healing.

Not long ago I was able to heal something pretty important in my life.  I had been told for years that I might just have to find a way to forgive the person who was part of the issue that has been involved.  It sounds reasonable to think this, and I think that in some cases, it works.  But what I have found is that the only path to true healing is by forgiving yourself.  Why?  It seems that karma has to do with you, not the world.  This is the radical side to being honest.  If something was your problem, then forgiving another person would not heal the karma.  The only way is to inquire within not without. If the problem really is about how you felt, then forgiving another is like lying to yourself, the same act as projecting all of your junk on another when that junk should be examined as your own baggage, not the other way around. On a karmic level, it is dishonest to try and saddle another person for your own shit, but sadly this is what we all do at some point or another.  My recent healing was in learning not to be reactive to those who would try to make their own shit my problem.  I simply stopped responding, stopped reacting.  This small simple thing gave me enough breathing room in my spirit to effect the release of something that has dogged me for so long.  It worked because it was true.  The soul knows the truth even when the personality does not.  You can’t bullshit yourself into the truth.  You just can’t.

I was also talking with an old friend and teacher from my college days today.  I had reached out to see how she was after she had gone through a PhD program and went from doing art to a big change into mediation work with inner city kids.  Something told me that something was up and that I needed to check in after a couple of years of being out of touch.  I recently contacted another old teacher in the same way recently to express to him how his teaching had impacted my creative life.  He died about six months after I told him this.  Life waits for no one.  So I jumped on this and acted because, well, you just never know.

We wound up in a conversation about the trials she has been going through with family.  She explained how this other person was the source of so much pain in her life.  Gently, through a series of turns, I explained how important it was to learn to see these things in a different way.  I began with a simple quote by Wayne Dwyer which states that how someone else acts is their karma, and how YOU react to them is your karma.  Do you get that small but important difference?  No one ever makes you feel any way at all, except that we each choose, yes choose, to feel the way we do.  After all, I explained, she could easily have a sibling who, going through the exact same thing might just wave off the same behavior as something not worth worrying about when it comes to that other person.  I see this all the time. I saw it in my family, I have seen it in class mates in college, and I have seen it in my children, too.  Two children living the same kind of life see and react completely differently.  The difference is in how we choose to feel.  Simple.  But people continue to want to see that it is the other person’s fault for HOW they MAKE them feel.  No, no one MAKES you feel anything.  YOU make YOU feel.  That is how things work.  Knowing this and living this truth is the only way to get out of the emotional and spiritual prison that we often find ourselves in, in our lives.

The problem with how we normally go about this way of relating is that we make everyone around us responsible for our feelings.  Normal sensitivity aside, we each have a choice.  I explained to her that by thinking and acting this way she not only misdirected her awareness, she also gave her sibling the power that she now has over her, which she has such a glitch now in dealing with.  It has resulted in a pretty big block emotionally for her, and she wound up revealing the severity of how she felt (which wound up being the most honest thing she could have done during our talk).  But the challenge is that she has this block that goes way back to her past, an issue she knows comes from when she was a small child. And the problem with these old repressed and blocked emotions is that they emerge in our adult lives with the same level of maturity in them as when they were shoved down and repressed to begin with.  Now imagine having a feeling that haunts you that was designed by a three year old. No perspective, lots of drama, and me, me, me. That is the kind of thing you get over and over until the issue is healed.  Can you imagine just how hard it would be to have to deal with the merry go round of feeling  something like this?

Until we can get really honest with ourselves about what is at work within ourselves, these repressed emotions simply keep playing themselves over and over seemingly with no end in sight, no resolution.  People die or move away and so often we feel like they are the people that we need in order to work this out with.  But this is the trick that keeps every  one of us in the game of our karmic entanglements.  She even asked me if she could clean this mess up if one or more of the people involved had passed from this life.  The answer was a firm “Yes!” because even though someone does die in the body, their soul lives on (and besides, the karma is not on THEM, it is on the person who owns it).

To do this, you just need radical honesty perhaps for the first time ever.  Take a moment and stop thinking about how someone pushes your buttons or upsets you and focus on how you wind up reacting to them. It is here, in how you actually do choose to react, that the problem emerges….for you.  Trust me, the way to healing all of this is by doing this.  When you hear yourself saying the words, “But he made me feel so rotten, so terrible….” STOP!!  Stop right there and back it up a little and look at what is happening here.  No, they are not the one who has power over you.  You have the power.  You have the power to find a way to release this so that YOUR issues cease entering into the marketplace of emotion.  You can go from being upset to realizing that this is just their stuff and has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them.  Pity the soul who must make another responsible for how they feel.  How powerless a state is that to be in?

The first step in authentic healing work is to clear up this one issue first.  If you are used to being the victim in life, this will be a hard one to overcome.  It will take time and training your mind to see things differently. But as you do, you will increasingly begin to breathe the fresh air of freedom instead of the stale air of dependency.  We have to be very clear about whose stuff is whose stuff.  My friend described a dream she had in the wake of a difficult encounter with her sibling that involved someone having pooped all over her yard.  Even in her dreaming she was aware that bad stuff was happening, but she was focused on the poop coming from someone else.  In the end, the shit was hers.  By going back into the dream, I explained, and imagining herself cleaning it up without making it anyone’s problem but her own, it would be one important way to cement just whose poop is whose, and then it would change the terms of engagement forever.  But I know how hard it is to shift so radically in order to see it this way.

Now mind you, I was the gold standard in shifting the blame at one point in my life.  I saw where it got me: nowhere.  Even though I did believe that others were responsible for my happiness, I learned that there is a different way, a more realistic way, and it is in our grasp.  When you can do this, this radical reorientation of the self, then things can change pretty quickly.  We each deserve this honesty even as we fear what its implications might be.  But the fear is unfounded.  Why we fear being honest might come from the fear of the unknown, or of upsetting others, or getting hurt by those who cannot or wont hear the truth.  But those who cannot bear the truth are probably not anyone that you could stand to be with in any significant way.  In the end, it is the greatest compassion you can pay yourself, something that might be hard, but is the greatest act of self love you can give yourself.  This really isn’t about anyone else but you, and the buck must stop here.

May you cast a great light in your life….

What is your history? Where are you from? Are we really so different from one another?

This video is beautiful….it will open in a new window…in-joy…

Peace to you, my brothers and sisters.

Every moment blooms with implications, mirrors, meanings often escaping notice.  But if you scratch beneath the surface, you will see that each moment is not accidental, but magnetized to all that you are.  Just look.  Watch.  Inquire with your mind, intending to know and then wait.  Those with the greatest alignment will start talking.  They will start coming out of the woodwork with their stories.  These stories have much to tell you about where you are, the commonality of experience and how in miraculous ways the world coheres to where you are.  And it is in this way that everything is a lesson.  You just need to look behind the obvious, rational.

We say a lot about mirrors and the law of attraction.  But its not well understood.  Anais Nin once said that we do not see the world as it is, but as we are.  We see in others not what they are, but what we project into them, bringing all manner of assumptions that are less about them and all about us. This is more about how we feel about them, or are reacting to them.  It is a pretty crazy way to go about knowing ourselves, don’t you think? But we as humans do it all the time. In my life I have seen this happen so many times it has become business as usual—and knowing that this is so affords you an opportunity based on your awareness that you have that this is the way things are.  But knowing that this is so, ask yourself what each moment is telling you, what each encounter is bringing up.  You are telling it to yourself, so you might as well delve into it and see what it has to teach you.

The other side of this is also how you react or respond to things that often push your buttons.  A “hot button” is actually an opportunity to clear something up in yourself at a time when you think it is someone else who is pushing your buttons.  Truth is, no one pushes our buttons; we simply choose to respond a certain way.  By stepping back in the moment a little, by bringing the watchful part of ourselves into our lives, it is possible to begin to see just what is going on instead of merely reacting.  An event that yesterday may have been hard for you could go from being a tragedy to being seen as a remedy.  So which is better, a tragedy or a remedy?  You can begin to see these challenges as allies in your life, very real opportunities for change and growth….change for the better…because once released, or healed, that issue becomes less and less of a problem for you.  You have less strife, hurt, anger, or frustration in your life.  People can be seen as being just who they are doing their own thing and you choosing the bounce off of what they do either with a positive or negative spin.

I know this all may sound Pollyanna to you, but I can assure you that this is an authentic way to start with real change in your life. And the healing part?  That comes with a willingness to delve into whatever your hot button issue is and look at it in ways you had not done so before.  What is at the root of your issues?  Where do they come from?  Do you know the genesis?  Most often, they are rooted in some unfinished business….maybe a parent or family member or friend hurt you when you were young and you have forever been reactive to anyone who behaves in a way that brings up that old memory.  But look at what is happening here; something has not really been resolved, has it?  Why not resolve it and see what happens?  Often it is a feeling like we have not been heard, or that our grievance has not been fully heard or understood.

In a case where your grievance goes over the heads and hearts of those who may have been involved, then the next step is a harder type of work called acceptance.  This acceptance is not blind acceptance, but an understanding that the other simply does not get it, and may not even be designed to ever get it.  And there is the rub.

Does the world really have to “get” you? How about you getting you and becoming content with that?  This person in this case may never see the light the way you do…so you have to choose to accept this glitch in them and in so doing, you do something in yourself you may not have done before, which has to do with a greater love that flows in the moment that you are able to let yourself feel in this way….which is always more expansive.  You see, the benefit is your own.  Working in this way (and others) you can learn how to heal and move on.  The “work” in all of this is by way of grace.  This is not something you work through…but that you accept.  By doing this, your brain learns how to think differently, to be different.  When you have done this a few times, it has a way of catching on for other issues in your life.  It can lead to what you will find will be small and big victories in finding greater peace and understanding in your life.

Opening to the feeling self, you can begin to feel the energy all around you.  And this energy is your life.  If you do not like what you see or feel deeply within, you can change it.  You can.  And you begin with the intention, then, like growing a plant from seed, you water and care and nurture it gently, persistently, and you don’t give up.  This becomes part of your life….and you grow used to feeling your way instead of using just the rational mind.  Feeling into it includes a vast part of your being….it is not vague, or touchy-feely.  It is, instead, how so many have comprehended the Tao….as best they could….a Presence that abides within and all around.

These lessons can be catalysts for great change.  Like a seed, you just have to be patient.  In perfect timing, events and people and opportunities will come along to help shift how you see and feel…which leads to still more change.  From this, broader realization can come to you.

The One has no limits.  It is neither form, nor not-form. It is indivisible.  Everything that exists, exists in it.  It seeks only Itself.  It is eternal and the giver of eternity.  It is pure Light.  It is the Blessed One that never changes.

The Apocryphon of John

All things manifest are filled with God.  All things that are invisible are filled with God.  All things flow from God, yet [S]He does not change.
